The Ukrainian side withdrew from a previously agreed meeting between Presidents Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Karol Nawrocki in Warsaw, proposing to postpone it to a later date. The Chancellery of the President of Poland said it viewed this as a sign that Kyiv was unwilling to engage in substantive dialogue with the Polish leader.
This was stated by Marcin Przydacz, State Secretary at the Chancellery of the President of Poland, according to Rzeczpospolita.
According to Przydacz, diplomatic consultations between Poland and Ukraine had been ongoing in recent weeks. He claims that after his talks with the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov, the possibility of a phone conversation between Zelenskyy and Nawrocki was discussed.
“But President Zelenskyy withdrew from that phone conversation and did not want to speak by phone,” Przydacz said.
After that, according to him, the Ukrainian side proposed holding an in-person meeting in Warsaw. The parties agreed on a specific date and time for the talks, but Kyiv later withdrew from that format as well.
“The Ukrainian side also withdrew from that date and that visit, proposing yet another distant date in the future,” the Polish official said.
As a result, Przydacz said, Warsaw concluded that the Ukrainian side “was not interested in a real discussion with the President of Poland.”
As previously reported, on June 19 Karol Nawrocki announced that he was stripping Volodymyr Zelenskyy of the Order of the White Eagle in connection with the decision to grant one of the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine the honorary title “Heroes of the UPA.” At the same time, the Polish president stressed that the decision was not directed against the Ukrainian people and did not signify any change in Poland’s support for Ukraine in its war with Russia.
