        Russia strikes Kyiv with ballistic missiles: at least five killed, 23 injured (UPDATED)

        On the night of August 20, Russian forces launched a large-scale attack on Kyiv, including with ballistic missiles. Residential buildings, medical and educational facilities were damaged, while major fires broke out across the city.

        According to the Kyiv City Military Administration, as of 3:20 a.m., the consequences of the Russian attack had been recorded at more than 12 locations in the Darnytskyi, Sviatoshynskyi and Solomianskyi districts of the capital.

        According to the latest data from the KCMA, five people were killed and 23 others were injured. At the time of publication, the State Emergency Service reported four fatalities and 23 people injured. The casualty figures are being clarified.

        In the Sviatoshynskyi district, a strike was recorded on the premises of an industrial facility. Rescue workers contained fires in two warehouse buildings covering 500 and 1,000 square metres. At another location, a warehouse building caught fire over an area of about 500 square metres.

        One person was found dead at one of the sites. Rescue workers are also working to free a person trapped under the rubble.

        In the Solomianskyi district, the eighth and ninth floors of a nine-storey residential building were destroyed. A fire broke out across the seventh to ninth floors.

        At other locations, windows were blown out in residential buildings and a medical facility. Cars, garages and a shop caught fire. The fire in the garages has already been extinguished.

        In addition, people were trapped inside two residential buildings and a school shelter. At another medical facility, windows were shattered and fires broke out in a utility room and a vehicle. The fires were extinguished.

        In the Darnytskyi district, a strike was recorded on the premises of a non-residential facility. Warehouse premises and vehicles caught fire over an area of about 1,000 square metres. Rescue workers saved one person and handed them over to medics.

        According to the KCMA, residential buildings, a medical facility and an educational institution were damaged in the attack. Large-scale warehouse fires broke out at several locations.

        State Emergency Service units, medical teams and other emergency services are working at the strike sites. Information on the consequences of the attack is still being clarified.

        Air defence forces were operating in Kyiv during the attack. Authorities urged residents of the capital to remain in shelters until the official all-clear is announced.

        UPD 07:11 The death toll from the Russian attack on Kyiv has risen to 6, while 33 people have been injured.

        Rescuers pulled two people from the rubble and continue to deal with the aftermath of the overnight attack on the capital in the Sviatoshynskyi, Solomianskyi and Darnytskyi districts.

        UPD 07:40 According to updated information, 8 people were killed in the enemy attack on the capital. Another 33 city residents were injured. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported this.
