In the week since US President Donald Trump announced an energy truce, Russian forces have carried out 76 deliberate strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and oil and gas sector. Overnight alone, substations in four regions came under attack, tens of thousands of households were left without electricity, and two people were killed in strikes on residential buildings.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported this.
According to Zelenskyy, Russian forces attacked electrical substations in the Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytskyi and Odesa regions overnight.
As a result of the strikes, tens of thousands of Ukrainian households remain without power. Energy workers and repair crews are working virtually around the clock to restore damaged infrastructure.
Russian forces also struck residential buildings in several Ukrainian regions.
According to the president, two people were killed and another 12 were injured, including two children.
In addition, Russian forces attacked an agricultural enterprise in the Volyn region in the morning. All necessary emergency services are working at the scene.
Nearly 2,700 drones, 1,700 aerial bombs and 66 missiles in one week
Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that over the past week, Russian forces launched the following weapons against Ukraine:
- nearly 2,700 attack drones;
- 1,700 aerial bombs;
- 66 missiles, most of them ballistic.
According to the president, Ukraine’s energy infrastructure remains the primary target of these attacks.
Russia is attempting to cause a widespread blackout across Ukraine, Zelenskyy emphasized.
Zelenskyy urges US to increase pressure on Russia
The Ukrainian president pointed out that Russian strikes are continuing despite the energy truce announced by the United States and decisions to ease sanctions.
“America must see that Russia is not taking steps toward compromise in response to sanctions relief or agreements. On the contrary, they interpret every signal that they might be able to make money as proof that their bet on war is working and that they can keep fighting,” Zelenskyy said.
He stressed that it is Moscow’s position that is responsible for the continuation of the war, not Ukraine’s actions in defending itself against the Russian invasion.
“Pressure must be put on Russia to give peace a chance,” the president emphasized.
