On January 15, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that 25 citizens had been returned from Russian captivity.

“Returning our people home is something that Ukraine is constantly working on. And we will not stop until we return all our people,” Zelensky said.

Among those released are the defenders of Mariupol and Azovstal, as well as Kharkiv, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions. They have serious injuries and illnesses.

Among those returned is also a civilian captured in Kyiv region and illegally detained by the Russians, the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War added.

The youngest released is 24 years old. The oldest is sixty. These people went through a lot without proper medical care and inhumane treatment in enemy captivity.

“The wounded have, among other things, loss of vision, amputations, complex bullet wounds and the consequences of mine injuries. Among the diseases are tuberculosis, oncology, gangrene, which is a clear indication of the conditions in which our people have to stay,” the coordination center said.
