84 Ukrainians, including military personnel and civilians, some of whom had been held captive since 2014, have returned to Ukraine from captivity in Russia.
This was reported by the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.
Among those released are 33 military personnel and 51 civilians. A special feature of this exchange is the release of Ukrainians who were detained in the temporarily occupied territories before the start of the full-scale war and sentenced to long terms of imprisonment — from 10 to 18 years. One of the released prisoners had been held captive for 4,013 days — he was captured in Donetsk Oblast back in 2014.
Ukrainians who were illegally detained from 2016 to 2021 also returned home. Among them are three women from Donetsk and Luhansk regions, including a primary school teacher who was deprived of her liberty in 2019.
Among those released is a 27-year-old man who was captured in 2016 at the age of 18.
Military personnel also returned to Ukraine: defenders from the Mariupol garrison, Navy and State Border Guard Service soldiers. Among them are 10 officers.
Most of those released have health problems and disabilities. The youngest is 26 years old, the oldest is 74, of which he spent the last seven years in a Russian prison.
