Ukraine has allocated a plot of land for the construction of a Rheinmetall plant, where 155 mm artillery shells will be manufactured.
This was announced by Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal after a meeting with Rheinmetall CEO Armin Papperger at the DSEI international arms exhibition in London.
According to him, the site is located in a safe region of the country.
The ammunition produced by the plant will be used to meet the needs of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Back in July 2024, it became known that the government had reached an agreement with Rheinmetall to launch the enterprise. Initially, it was planned to produce 150,000 shells per year, but the company is preparing to lay the groundwork for the production of up to 300,000.
In addition, during the meeting, the parties discussed expanding the capabilities for repairing and localizing the production of armored vehicles in Ukraine, as well as technological solutions for countering enemy drones.
