On December 12, Ukraine celebrates the Day of the Land Forces, a professional holiday established in 1997 by a presidential decree. This day honors the contribution of the most numerous branch of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to the country’s defense capability.
The Army is the main combat force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. They play a key role in protecting the country and its people from armed aggression, demonstrating courage, resilience and professionalism.
“You are the backbone of our army. You have its power, strength and indomitable spirit. You, infantrymen, artillerymen, tankers, army aviators and other representatives of the Land Forces of Ukraine, stop and destroy the ruthless enemy, bear perhaps the heaviest burden of war. Your deeds on the battlefield are examples of heroism, patriotism and professionalism that inspire the country. It is largely thanks to you that the state remains free, lives and works,” said Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi in his greeting.
Commander of the Land Forces Mykhailo Drapaty emphasized that being a soldier of the Land Forces means always being where it is hardest.
“Every year we celebrate this holiday in the trenches. In the open air. Where the frost chills to the bone. But your hearts are hot and your spirit is invincible. We are fighting on our native land. But we are defending much more than its borders. Namely, our future, the right to live in freedom for us and our children. Ukraine is standing and will stand thanks to us!” Drapaty emphasized.
