Tymoshenko and Poroshenko respond to Politico’s report on secret talks with US administration

Ukrainian MPs Petro Poroshenko and Yulia Tymoshenko have said that they did not discuss the election in Ukraine with their American partners, as reported by Politico.

Poroshenko said on social media that his team was cooperating with the US openly, focusing on military assistance, sanctions against Russia and support for Ukraine.

‘The essence of our discussions with American representatives has always been based on two principles: security first and peace through strength. Specifically, this means weapons, intelligence, sanctions against Russia, financial support, democratic resilience (freedom and democracy), and transatlantic unity,’ Poroshenko wrote.

He also stressed that he opposes elections during the war, and that they are possible only after the cessation of hostilities and the conclusion of a peace agreement.

Tymoshenko also confirmed that her Batkivshchyna party is in talks with its allies.

‘Ukraine, and this was clearly stated by President Zelenskyy, is ready for negotiations to end the war under the strong leadership of President Trump. The Batkivshchyna team is in talks with all our allies who can help ensure a just peace as soon as possible. Until then, and I have said this more than once, holding any elections in Ukraine is out of the question,’ she wrote.

Earlier, Politico reported that representatives of the Ukrainian opposition, including Poroshenko and Tymoshenko, had allegedly discussed the election with politicians close to Donald Trump.
