As part of the command reform, the National Guard of Ukraine has formed two new corps. They are headed by the commanders of the 12th Azov Brigade, Colonel Denys Prokopenko (call sign Redis), and the 13th Khartiia Brigade, Colonel Ihor Obolensky (call sign Cornet).

This was stated in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine by the NGU commander Oleksandr Pivnenko.

According to him, these changes are part of a broader reform that involves the transition from temporary tactical structures to a corps system similar to the one being implemented in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Pivnenko noted that the commanders of the newly created corps were chosen from among those who directly manage their units and have a good knowledge of the situation, personnel and specifics of the war. This approach, he said, helps ensure coherence and unified command of combat units.

‘This has often been one of the problems and major challenges in establishing interaction. Because when one brigade is in one place and the other in another, it is very difficult to manage,’ said Pivnenko.
