Today, October 16, US President Donald Trump held a telephone conversation with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. According to him, the parties agreed to hold a face-to-face meeting in Budapest to discuss a possible end to the war between Russia and Ukraine.

Donald Trump wrote about this on Truth Social.

Trump noted that Putin congratulated him and the United States on the “great achievement of peace in the Middle East” and also thanked First Lady Melania Trump for her work with children. During the conversation, the leaders also focused on the issue of future trade between the two countries after the end of the war.

Next week, according to Trump, there will be a meeting of high-level advisers, which will be led on the American side by Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

“President Putin and I will then meet at an agreed location — Budapest, Hungary — to see if we can end this ‘disgraceful’ war between Russia and Ukraine,” Trump wrote.

The US president also said that tomorrow he will meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the Oval Office to discuss the results of his conversation with Putin. Trump said he considers today’s telephone dialogue “significant progress.”
