Today, January 1, at 7:00 a.m., the transportation of Russian natural gas through the territory of Ukraine was suspended in the interest of national security. Ukraine has duly informed its international partners about this decision.
This information was reported by the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine.
Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko described the suspension of Russian gas transit through Ukraine as a historic event.
“Russia is losing markets and will suffer financial losses. Europe has already decided to refuse Russian gas, and the European initiative RepowerEU reflects exactly what Ukraine has done today,” – the statement said.
Since January 1, Ukraine’s gas transportation system has been operating without Russian gas transit. According to the Ministry of Energy, the gas transmission system infrastructure was prepared in advance for zero transit and to ensure uninterrupted gas supply to Ukrainian consumers.
