The State Security Service of Ukraine stated that former high-ranking officials are entitled to state security only for one year after the end of their term of office, provided that they have not been convicted by a court. This was reported by the State Security Service, commenting on the situation surrounding Andriy Parubiy.
The agency reminded that the law ‘On State Security of State Authorities of Ukraine and Officials’ defines a list of persons who are provided with security during the exercise of their powers, including the Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, the Prime Minister, the Minister of Defence, the Prosecutor General and others. After the termination of powers, state protection continues for another year if there is no conviction. ‘The State Security Service of Ukraine performs its tasks exclusively within the framework of the current legislation,’ the agency emphasised.
Yesterday in Lviv, an unknown person fired several shots at Andriy Parubiy, killing the politician on the spot. At the time of the incident, he was without state security, which caused a stir in the media.
