The Verkhovna Rada adopted draft law No. 13533 on restoring the independence of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) as a basis and as a whole. 331 deputies voted in favor.
This was announced by MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak.
“Bill 13533 on restoring the powers of NABU and SAPO as a basis and as a whole — 331. No abstentions or votes against,” Zheleznyak wrote.
The document has already been signed by Verkhovna Rada Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk. The law will now be sent to the President of Ukraine for signature.
As a reminder, the day before, the relevant parliamentary committee recommended adopting bill No. 13533, which was also supported by NABU and SAP.
As previously reported, on July 24, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that he had approved the bill, which, according to him, “guarantees the real strengthening of the rule of law, the independence of anti-corruption bodies, and protection from any Russian influence.”
According to the published text of the document, the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office will no longer be subordinate to the Prosecutor General. The bill also provides for limiting the influence of the Prosecutor General on NABU, consolidating the institutional independence of SAPO, and simplifying the procedure for appointing prosecutors.
