The Russian army has changed its tactics in missile strikes on Ukraine: the share of ballistic missiles is increasing, and drones and rockets are undergoing modernization. This was reported by Yuriy Ihnat, the head of the Communications Department of the Ukrainian Air Force Command, during a live broadcast.
According to Ihnat, the enemy is trying to complicate the work of Ukrainian air defense by implementing new technical solutions. In particular, the “Shahed” drones, which have been actively used since the fall of 2022, have undergone changes both externally and in terms of functionality.
“We see that the ‘Shahed’ has changed externally to a black color. It has also received several modifications regarding targeting, satellite navigation, and so on,” Ihnat said.
The enemy is also continuing to improve its ballistic missiles. As the representative of the Air Force noted, after Ukraine received Patriot systems and began successfully shooting down “Kinzhal” and “Iskander” missiles, Russia started looking for ways to overcome this defense. Ihnat mentioned that it has become more difficult to shoot down these missiles due to their modernization.
“Since the beginning of 2024, the enemy has increased the percentage of ballistic missiles in its arsenal. The share of cruise missiles has decreased, while the number of ballistic missiles has increased. We understand that ballistic missiles are intercepted by Patriots,” Ihnat explained.
The representative of the Air Force emphasized that Ukraine shares data about the enemy’s new weapons with Western partners to help them improve their anti-aircraft systems.
