Today, January 29, repatriation measures took place, during which 1000 bodies and remains of the fallen, which, according to the Russian Federation, belong to Ukrainian defenders, were returned to Ukraine. Law enforcement agencies and expert institutions will begin the necessary procedures for their identification.

This was reported by the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.

“Investigators from law enforcement agencies, together with expert institutions in Ukraine, will take all necessary measures to identify the repatriated deceased,” the statement said.

The repatriation measures were implemented as a result of joint efforts by representatives of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, the Joint Center at the Security Service of Ukraine, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Office of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, the Secretariat of the Commissioner for Persons Missing under Special Circumstances, the State Emergency Service, and other structures of the security and defense sector of Ukraine.

After the bodies are returned, law enforcement investigators, together with Ukrainian expert institutions, will carry out a series of measures aimed at identifying the repatriated deceased.

The transportation of the bodies to designated state specialized institutions, as well as their transfer to representatives of law enforcement agencies within the Ministry of Internal Affairs and forensic medical experts within the Ministry of Health, will be provided by the civil-military cooperation units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Joint Center for Civil-Military Cooperation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The International Committee of the Red Cross was also involved in the repatriation process.
