The situation on the outskirts of Pokrovsk in Donetsk Oblast remains threatening due to the Russian army’s offensive on the flanks. More than 110,000 soldiers from the most combat-ready units of the Russian Federation are concentrated in this section of the front, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrsky said in an interview with journalist Natalia Nahorna.
“Active operations in this direction have been going on for over a year. Despite the fact that the most powerful units of the Russian army are located there, we are managing to hold the situation,” Syrsky said.
According to him, the occupiers launched an active offensive towards the city after capturing Avdiivka in February 2024. The defense forces are using all possible measures to hold Pokrovsk and the surrounding territories.
“The enemy changed tactics, increased the number of troops, and brought in armored vehicles, but we are holding our positions. Yes, the situation is difficult, but the enemy is suffering significant losses. The largest number of attacks are recorded here every day. Our troops are doing everything to ensure that Pokrovsk and the Pokrovsk agglomeration remain under Ukrainian control,” the commander-in-chief emphasized.
