President Volodymyr Zelensky met with European Council President António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. The sides discussed further support for Ukraine, including its energy and air defense needs, as well as financial assistance for next year.
This was announced by Volodymyr Zelensky.
The president stressed that there are currently no signs that Russia is ready to end the war.
“There are currently no signals from Russia that it is ready to end this war of its own making. Its signals show exactly the opposite and certainly do not bring peace any closer,” Zelensky said.
He recalled Russia’s overnight strikes on energy infrastructure and the morning attack on Kharkiv. According to him, two people had been killed and 17 injured as of the time of his statement.
Zelensky also reported Russian strikes on a shopping center in Rivne and energy facilities in four regions.
“European leadership is needed to ensure sufficient protection of lives from this Russian terror,” the president stressed.
According to Zelensky, the sides discussed further assistance to Ukraine, primarily in the areas of energy and air defense.
Support for Ukraine’s financial stability, including in 2027, was also discussed separately.
Zelensky said the sides also coordinated their work on Ukraine’s European integration. According to him, new negotiating clusters were opened this week.
“We are working to open the remaining two by the end of this year,” the president said.
Earlier, “Glavnoe in Ukraine” reported that European leaders at the EU summit in Brussels were discussing further support for Ukraine amid deteriorating relations between Kyiv and Washington. Key issues included air defense, energy, financing for Ukraine and assistance in getting through the winter.
