On 1 March 2025, new rules will come into force in Slovakia that will limit the period of stay of Ukrainian refugees in asylum centres and accommodation payments to 60 days. Previously, this period was 120 days.

This was reported by the Slovak Spectator.

Deputy Minister of the Interior of Slovakia Peter Krauspe noted that most Ukrainian refugees find work and housing within two months. The innovation, he said, is a forced measure aimed at saving budget funds.

‘We are forced to cut costs wherever possible,’ Krauspe said, adding that the country is already providing significant financial support. The changes are expected to save around €2 million.
