Today, January 13, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine dismissed Denys Shmyhal from the post of Minister of Defense. A vote on Shmyhal’s appointment as Minister of Energy is expected to take place shortly.
This was announced by People’s Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak.
According to him, 265 MPs voted for Shmyhal’s dismissal.
Earlier, the parliamentary committee on national security, defense, and intelligence recommended that the Rada support the president’s proposal to dismiss Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal.
Recall that on January 2, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that he had offered Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov the position of Minister of Defense. The president also offered Denys Shmyhal the position of First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy. On January 9, Fedorov and Shmyhal submitted their resignations.
