Russians have started using X-101 cruise missiles equipped with outdated Soviet R-95-300 engines.
A photo of the wreckage of a missile with this engine was posted on social media, Militarny reports.
The R-95-300 engines are installed on some of the Kh-101 missiles used in the November 17 missile strike. Usually, Russian TRDD-50A engines are used for such missiles.
This is the first recorded case of a modern Russian cruise missile being combined with an outdated Soviet engine.
Since Russia does not produce such engines, it is likely that they are used from old Soviet stockpiles or taken from dismantled Kh-55 missiles.
The production of subsonic rocket engines in Russia is a weak point in the entire production chain, the newspaper writes.
