Ukrainian defenders have captured a Russian soldier involved in the execution of Ukrainian prisoners of war in Kursk.

This was announced by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy after a report by First Deputy Head of the Security Service of Ukraine Oleksandr Poklad.

According to the president, this is a Russian military officer responsible for the execution of Ukrainian prisoners in October last year in the Kursk region.

Zelenskyy emphasized that every Russian killer must be held accountable for their crimes.

“Every Russian killer must be held accountable for their actions. And so it will be. We are also countering Russian sabotage in the rear – thank you to the Security Service of Ukraine for protecting our citizens,” the statement said.

This is likely a reference to the war crime committed by Russians in October 2024, when nine Ukrainian soldiers who had surrendered were shot in the Kursk region. Earlier reports indicated that the victims were heading to positions they believed to be rear positions, but encountered the enemy and engaged in combat. Due to limited ammunition, the Ukrainian soldiers were forced to lay down their arms. According to DeepState analysts, the shooting took place on October 10, 2024.
