Ukrainian law enforcement officers have served a notice of suspicion to a major general of the Russian Armed Forces involved in the looting of property from the Chornobyl nuclear power plant.
According to the National Police, under the cover of the Russian military, representatives of the state corporation Rosatom tried to take control of the Chornobyl nuclear power plant.
“A major general, deputy chief of the radiochemical security troops, was appointed to manage the station. His task was to supervise the work of the staff and study the technical documentation, but he realized that he could not master the work of the Chornobyl NPP during its decommissioning, and therefore his subordinates simply looted its property,” the statement said.
Rosatom employees took away a unique radiology laboratory, ionizing radiation sources, nearly 700 computers, 344 company cars, and even radiation dosimeters from the Chornobyl NPP.
The damage caused to the enterprises is estimated at over UAH 1.038 billion.
Under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office, a major general was served a notice of suspicion of violating the laws and customs of war (Article 28(2), Article 438(1) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
