On the night of March 17-18, Russian drones attacked an oil refinery in the town of Merefa, Kharkiv district. The refinery belongs to the Kharkiv-based investment and industrial group AES Group, which said that about 20 drones were fired at the enterprise.

RBC-Ukraine reports citing the company’s press service.

The strikes on the Merefa refinery lasted for two hours. Firefighting lasted all night, and bomb squads and law enforcement are currently working at the scene.

“This is the fourth attack on the enterprise since February 2022. Until yesterday, the plant was operating at only 10% of its capacity, but after the latest attack it was completely destroyed,” the company said.

According to the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, buildings and premises were damaged. A 59-year-old security guard sustained a shrapnel wound. The company claims that the attack was fatal for the business.

“In fact, we are talking about starting bankruptcy proceedings. The fourth strike on the company was fatal. We can only hope for international courts, but in the current geopolitical situation in the world, the chances of justice are slim,” AES Group said.
