Russia attacks Ukraine with new “Dan-M” strike UAVs launched from Crimea – expert

On the morning of May 29, Russian forces used a new type of jet-powered strike drone called the “Dan-M” (“Tribute”-M) launched in a group from occupied Crimea. This was reported by military expert Serhii “Flash” Beskrestnyi on Telegram.

According to him, the “Dan-M” is a modified version of a jet target drone originally designed for air defense training, which Russia has repurposed into a strike UAV.

“We used a similar approach early in the full-scale war by converting old Soviet ‘Strizh’ drones into strike UAVs due to a lack of cruise missiles and long-range drones. But it’s unclear why Russia is doing this now—perhaps they simply have a large stockpile of these drones,” Beskrestnyi noted.

The “Dan-M” has a flight time of up to 40 minutes, a speed range of 400 to 750 km/h, and a maximum altitude of 9 kilometers. While the original drone has a red body, the color has been changed in this combat version.

For security reasons, the expert did not disclose the outcome of this UAV group’s attack.
