US First Lady Melania Trump called for Oleshky to become the starting point for lasting peace. She said the ceasefire in the town and surrounding areas of the Kherson region had allowed residents to move freely and access essential assistance without the constant threat of attack.
She made the remarks in a post on X.
In the post, titled “A Renewed Spirit,” Melania Trump said residents had gained access to food, clean water and medicine, along with a renewed sense of dignity.
“Let Oleshky become the starting point for lasting peace,” the first lady wrote.
Melania Trump helped prepare the temporary ceasefire agreement for the humanitarian mission in the occupied town. According to the White House, she and her representative worked directly with the Ukrainian and Russian sides to coordinate the operation’s terms, timing and procedures.
The negotiations used a communication channel previously established through efforts to reunite children with their families. The arrangements provided for aid deliveries, the clearance of mines along designated routes and the voluntary evacuation of civilians.
As previously reported by Ukraine Top News, the ceasefire for the mission took effect on October 27. Ukrainian Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets confirmed that the operation was prepared jointly with Russian Human Rights Commissioner Yana Lantratova, with Melania Trump’s mediation and coordination.
On October 31, evacuated residents of Oleshky and nearby settlements returned to Ukrainian-controlled territory. Lubinets thanked the US first lady for her personal involvement at every stage of the mission. He said the agreed ceasefire was scheduled to remain in effect until 10:59 p.m. on November 1.
As our outlet also reported, citing Fox News, the agreement signed on October 23 envisaged further regular humanitarian deliveries and repatriation programs in communities across the Kherson region, with Melania Trump’s assistance and coordination.
