Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk defeated American Emma Navarro in the third round of Wimbledon 2026, setting a new personal best at the grass-court Grand Slam.
The result was reported by Suspilne Sport.
Kostyuk beat the No. 23 seed Navarro in three sets — 6-2, 5-7, 6-1. The match lasted 1 hour and 44 minutes.
In the first set, the players initially traded games, but the Ukrainian then won four games in a row and closed out the set in 32 minutes.
In the second set, Kostyuk led 2-1, but Navarro managed to get back into the match. At 5-5, the American took the decisive games and forced a third set.
In the final set, Kostyuk regained control, won the first three games and went on to seal the victory 6-1.
The Ukrainian hit two aces, compared with one for Navarro. Kostyuk also recorded nine winners to Navarro’s five and made five unforced errors, while her opponent had ten.
For Kostyuk, this is the first round-of-16 appearance at Wimbledon in her career. Her previous best result at the tournament was the third round in 2023 and 2024.
The Ukrainian also defeated Navarro for the first time. Before this match, Kostyuk had lost all four of their previous meetings.
“This is an incredible place. I never thought in my life that I would make the fourth round here. This is new territory for me. The support and atmosphere are incredible”, Kostyuk said after the win.
A Ukrainian derby is possible in the round of 16. Kostyuk’s potential opponent could be Daria Snigur, who will face American Ashlyn Krueger.
The Snigur vs. Krueger match is scheduled for Saturday, July 4, and will start no earlier than 15:00 Kyiv time.
