In the coming days, Germany will transfer two additional Patriot launchers to Ukraine. Other components of the system will also be transferred over the next two to three months.
This was announced by Ukrainian Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal.
“The importance of the Patriot transfer was discussed this week with German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius,” Shmyhal wrote.
The timing of the transfer of the Patriot systems to Ukraine has been confirmed by the German Federal Ministry of Defense.
“In the coming days, the Bundeswehr will transfer two more Patriot launchers to Ukraine. The second stage of delivery is planned for the next two to three months — the transfer of other system components to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense with additional Patriot batteries,” the statement said.
The systems, which are due to undergo technical maintenance in the near future, will be prepared for use and transferred in combat condition thanks to the joint efforts of the partners.
As part of the agreement with the US Department of Defense, Germany will receive the latest Patriot systems, which have just come off the production line, in exchange. These systems will be paid for by Berlin. As emphasized by the German Ministry of Defense, this was the result of close coordination with the US, NATO allies, and NATO Supreme Allied Commander Europe General Alexus Grinkevich.
The process was initiated on July 14 by Defense Minister Boris Pistorius and his American counterpart Hagseth to significantly strengthen Ukraine’s air defense.
