Germany has warned Russia that its “time is running out”: by the end of Monday, Russia must agree to an unconditional 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine. If Moscow does not accept this demand, “preparations will begin” for new sanctions
This was reported by The Guardian, citing Stefan Cornelius.
The German government spokesman made the statement after European leaders visiting Kyiv over the weekend demanded that Russia agree to a ceasefire.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Svytsiak posted an update after talks with European foreign ministers gathered in London.
He said that “the Russians are completely ignoring the proposal for a complete and lasting ceasefire” as they “continue to attack Ukrainian positions across the front line.”
“Moscow is wasting another opportunity to end the killings. This demonstrates once again that Russia’s only goal is to continue the war,” he said.
Sibiga stressed that “Ukraine is making every effort to end the war and give diplomacy a chance,” highlighting Zelensky’s call on Putin to meet in person, but noted that “there has been no response yet.”
During the London summit, which Sibiga joined online, leaders discussed possible new sanctions against Russia’s banking sector, central bank, and energy sector, as well as new defense aid packages, he said.
“Putin must realize the consequences of rejecting peace efforts and continuing the war,” he added, thanking partners for their continued support.
