In response to widespread public concern about the state of defensive preparations along the administrative border between Dnipropetrovsk and Donetsk regions, analysts from the monitoring community DeepState have confirmed: engineering and fortification structures (EFS) are indeed being built in the area.

The DeepState team visited one of the defensive lines and published exclusive footage of the construction process. According to their report, a layered defense system is being built to slow down and exhaust the enemy. The positions are being equipped with various engineering barriers: anti-tank ditches, “dragon’s teeth,” concertina wire, minefields, and underground shelters designed with the FPV drone threat in mind.
Following public criticism regarding the situation in the Kharkiv region, attention to defensive construction increased significantly — and this has had a positive effect in Dnipropetrovsk as well. Each stage of the work is managed by different groups: combat brigades, military engineers, and specialized units. According to engineers, resources are generally sufficient, though there is never truly “enough.”

DeepState also emphasized that EFS alone are not enough to ensure effective defense. Major challenges include massive air-dropped bomb attacks, a high number of enemy FPV drones, and the continuous waves of Russian infantry. However, the most critical issue remains a shortage of personnel — even the best fortifications are ineffective if there’s no one to defend them.
Despite the difficulties, analysts note clear progress: fortifications in the Dnipropetrovsk region are being built, the quality is improving, and Ukraine’s combat experience is attracting the attention of even Western partners.
