Law enforcement agencies are investigating the circumstances surrounding the murder of former Verkhovna Rada speaker Andriy Parubiy in Lviv.
The police have not directly named the victim, but according to local media reports, it is Parubiy.
‘Today, around noon, 102 received a report of a shooting in the Frankivsk district of Lviv. The victim died at the scene as a result of his injuries. It has been established that the deceased is a well-known public and political figure born in 1971,’ the report said.
The victim died before the arrival of medical personnel.
Local media reported that the killer was a Glovo delivery driver who had delivered an order.
According to law enforcement officials, investigative teams from the Main Investigation Department of the National Police and the Lviv Region Police, the Security Service of Ukraine and other necessary agencies are involved in the investigation.
‘All details will be disclosed in the manner and to the extent provided for by criminal procedural law,’ the police said.
Andriy Parubiy was the Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine from 14 April 2016 to 28 August 2019.
In addition, he was Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council from 27 February to 7 August 2014.
He was a member of the Ukrainian Parliament during the 6th, 7th and 8th convocations.
During the Euromaidan, he was the commander of the Maidan Self-Defence Forces.
