A former Ukrainian athlete from Crimea was sentenced in absentia to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property for aiding the aggressor state.
This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General.
The convicted woman is a multiple European and world sumo champion who has been a member of the Russian national team since 2016. According to the investigation, in 2023, she founded a volunteer movement in the temporarily occupied Crimea and raised funds for the needs of the Russian military, in particular for units that fought in Bakhmut.

In addition, she spread pro-Russian narratives in the media, calling for assistance to the Russian army and support for its actions against Ukraine.
The court found her guilty and sentenced her to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
