Ukraine continues to battle large-scale forest fires, with the biggest blaze currently burning in the Chornobyl exclusion zone.

The State Emergency Service of Ukraine (DSNS) said that as of 5:00 p.m. on May 9, the fire in the exclusion zone had spread across 1,200 hectares of forest.

According to rescuers, dry weather and strong wind gusts are contributing to the rapid spread of the fire.

A total of 374 people are involved in firefighting efforts, including 253 emergency service workers.

The DSNS said the situation remains under control.

Firefighters are also continuing efforts to extinguish a forest fire in the Polissia Nature Reserve.

Rescuers and forestry workers are working to eliminate separate hotspots in the forest floor to prevent the fire from spreading further.

Drones are being used to monitor the affected areas, while emergency crews are rotating personnel to maintain continuous operations.

On May 9, authorities also localized a major wildfire involving dry vegetation and self-seeded forests in the Desna community of Chernihiv region.

According to the DSNS, the fire affected around 350 hectares.

Emergency crews are continuing efforts to extinguish isolated hotspots and prevent the fire from reigniting.
