After the end of the war, preparations for the elections will take longer than the current legislation provides for. To talk about specific deadlines, it is necessary to adopt a law on the specifics of post-war elections.
This was stated by the head of the CEC, Oleh Didenko, in an interview with Ukrainska Pravda.
According to him, the current rules provide for parliamentary elections to be held 60 days after the end of martial law, and presidential elections – 90 days later. At the same time, due to the consequences of the war, electoral procedures need to be adjusted.
‘Now there seems to be a consensus in society and among politicians that it will take a longer period of time to prepare for elections after the end of martial law than the one defined by law,’ Didenko said.
Earlier, The Economist reported that elections in Ukraine could be held as early as July, and President Zelenskyy had allegedly convened a meeting on the issue.
