On the evening of 20 December, Kharkiv came under attack from two Russian drones, resulting in fires in a high-rise residential building and a private home. Eight people, including a 12-year-old girl, were injured in the strikes, according to the Kharkiv Regional Police.
The first drone struck at 9:40 PM in the Saltivka district, hitting a nine-story building. The impact caused fires in apartments on the first and second floors, leaving six people injured, including the child.
Two hours later, a second drone hit a private house in the Kyiv district. While firefighters quickly extinguished the flames, two individuals suffered acute stress reactions.
Petro Tokar, Head of the Kharkiv Regional Police, confirmed that medical assistance is being provided to the victims. Preliminary findings suggest that Russian forces used Geranium-2 drones in the attack.
“The police have secured the area to preserve evidence and document the aftermath of the aggression. Search operations are ongoing,” Tokar stated.
Specialized investigative teams, including bomb disposal experts, forensic specialists, canine units, emergency responders, and medics, are actively working at the scene. A temporary headquarters of the Investigative Department has been set up near the high-rise to assist residents in reporting property losses.
The incident has been classified under Part 1 of Article 438 of Ukraine’s Criminal Code, addressing violations of the laws and customs of war.
