On August 17, Moldova’s Armed Forces systems detected an aerial object entering the country’s airspace and moving along the Cuciurgan–Tiraspol route. Near the settlement of Talmaz, where the object disappeared from monitoring systems, an explosion and vegetation fire were later recorded.
This was reported by the Armed Forces of the Republic of Moldova.
Earlier, the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that a “Banderoль” from Odesa region had crossed the state border in the direction of the Republic of Moldova.
“The airspace surveillance systems operated by the National Army detected at 17:37 the entry into the airspace of the Republic of Moldova of an aerial object, on the Cuciurgan–Tiraspol route,” the Moldovan Armed Forces said in a statement.
After that, the country closed the central sector of its airspace for 15 minutes.
“According to preliminary data, the object disappeared from monitoring systems in the area of the settlement of Talmaz, Ștefan Vodă district,” the military said.
At the same time, Moldova’s General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations of the Interior Ministry reported that an explosion occurred about three kilometers from Talmaz.
“As a result, vegetation was reported burning,” the statement said.
Specialized teams were dispatched to the scene to document the situation and establish the circumstances of the incident. Moldova’s Foreign Ministry condemned the violation of the country’s airspace and the explosion in the Talmaz area.
“This incident constitutes a serious violation of the sovereignty of the Republic of Moldova and poses a direct risk to the safety of our citizens. Such incidents are unacceptable,” the ministry said.
The Foreign Ministry also stressed that “the Russian Federation’s war of aggression against Ukraine continues to have direct consequences for the security of the Republic of Moldova.”
