A number of Russian regions came under a large-scale drone attack overnight into Sunday, August 2. Explosions and fires were reported in the Saratov, Samara and Rostov regions.
Saratov Region Governor Roman Busargin said that “civilian infrastructure” had been damaged in Saratov and the neighboring city of Engels. According to him, preliminary information indicated that there were casualties.
Monitoring Telegram channels reported that the Saratov oil refinery may have been the target of the attack. ASTRA geolocated videos published by eyewitnesses and concluded that the fire had broken out on the grounds of the facility. This was at least the 15th attack on the Saratov refinery since the start of the full-scale war.

The previous reported strike on the refinery took place on July 8. A fire also broke out at the facility following explosions at that time.
Engels is located across the Volga River from Saratov. The Russian Engels-2 air base is situated near the city and hosts strategic bombers used by Russia to launch strikes against Ukraine.
In the morning, drones also attacked a large Wildberries logistics center in the settlement of Novosemeykino near Samara. A major fire broke out at the complex. Both Wildberries and Samara Region Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev confirmed the attack.

The Novosemeykino warehouse opened in May 2025. In late July, the facility’s management had already canceled night shifts because of the threat of drone attacks.
According to monitoring channels, this was the ninth Wildberries warehouse attacked by drones since mid-July. Fires had previously been reported at the company’s logistics facilities in the Moscow, Tambov, Volgograd, Leningrad and other Russian regions.
Authorities in the Rostov region also reported a large-scale attack. Governor Yuri Slyusar said that Russian air defenses had allegedly destroyed nearly 150 drones overnight. According to him, most of them were intercepted over the western and northern parts of the region.
The northern part of the Rostov region is one of the routes that strike drones may use to reach targets in Russia’s Volga region. The Ukrainian side had not officially commented on the overnight attacks at the time of publication.
