The Baltic states have officially disconnected from the Russian power grid and fully synchronized their systems with Europe’s continental energy network. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced this in his address.
According to him, this step strengthens regional energy security and makes Europe even more united.
“Moscow will no longer be able to use energy as a weapon against the Baltic states. Ukraine did this back in 2022, and now the Baltic nations have also freed themselves from dependence,” Zelensky stated.
The president emphasized that Europe must continue on this path and gradually eliminate any energy ties with Russia, including Central European countries that still maintain contracts with the Kremlin.
“We need to work more with America – LNG, oil. We need to engage more with our partners in neighboring regions – the Caucasus, the Middle East, and North Africa,” Zelensky stressed.
The Ukrainian president also congratulated Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia on this decision and thanked Poland for its support in the process. He noted that such cooperation is the key to the independence of every European country.
