Seven Zaporizhstal workers were killed and another 21 people injured in a Russian ballistic strike on an industrial site in Zaporizhzhia. The steelworks completely suspended operations due to damage to its production facilities and infrastructure.

According to the company, the Russian strike hit as workers were heading to a shelter immediately after an air-raid alert was declared. Seven Zaporizhstal employees were killed, while 21 workers at the group’s plants were injured.
Metinvest said it was providing the victims with the necessary assistance and maintaining contact with the families of those killed and injured.
The attack damaged power units and infrastructure at the group’s Zaporizhzhia plants. The main and auxiliary facilities used for coke and blast-furnace production were also damaged.
The steelworks completely suspended operations, while other production sites are operating at reduced capacity. Specialists are assessing the extent of the damage and possible recovery timelines while carrying out emergency repair work.
Flags at Metinvest plants were lowered to half-mast on August 11 and 12 in mourning for the workers who were killed.
Russian forces launched a massive attack on the city with missiles and guided aerial bombs overnight on August 11. According to updated figures from the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, seven people were killed and another 24 injured in total.
Industrial facilities and infrastructure came under attack. High-rise and non-residential buildings and a garage cooperative were also damaged, while the city experienced power outages.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russian forces used North Korean ballistic missiles, Zircon missiles and guided aerial bombs against Zaporizhzhia. August 12 was declared a day of mourning in the Zaporizhzhia region.
