In the Polish city of Bydgoszcz, two adults attacked a 12-year-old boy and his 14-year-old sister from Ukraine at a playground. Police detained a 46-year-old woman and a 34-year-old man who may be connected to the incident.
This was reported by Onet.
The attack took place on Friday, August 14, at a playground near the railway station in Bydgoszcz. The attackers were angered by the fact that the children were speaking Ukrainian. The boy and his sister had their arms twisted and their toys broken. Threats were also directed at the children.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that attacking children was unacceptable regardless of attitudes toward Ukraine.
“Regardless of what some people think about Ukraine, we know the recent events, we understand that not everything is right on either the Ukrainian or the Polish side, but attacking children is anti-Polish behaviour,” Tusk said.
He also addressed the attackers directly, who were being sought by police at the time.
“I have a message for them. You will be caught by the end of the week. It will be much better for you — you can ask a lawyer you know — if you report to the police yourselves today,” the prime minister said.
Later, police reported the detention in Bydgoszcz of a 46-year-old woman and a 34-year-old man. According to law enforcement, they may be connected to the attack on the Ukrainian children. Procedural actions involving the detainees are currently under way.
