A couple from the frontline village of Torske in Donetsk Oblast, who lost their home due to shelling, set off on foot for Lyman. The pensioner walked 16 kilometers barefoot, and the “White Angels” police later evacuated the couple and three other local residents.
This was reported by the Donetsk region police.
Due to the intensification of shelling in the Lyman community, more residents are contacting the police with requests for evacuation. Today, 10 requests were received.
Movement within the community is complicated by constant attacks from enemy drones. In order to pick up everyone who wants to leave as quickly as possible and avoid coming under fire, the police plan their routes in advance.
A couple from Torske, where heavy fighting continues, walked for five hours to get to Lyman because there are currently no other options for escaping the village.
“We hid in the cellar because of the bombing. We didn’t eat for three days. The bombs fell, and we barely managed to get out of the basement. Everything burned down, nothing was left. We decided to go to my son-in-law in Lyman. We left at 9 a.m. and arrived at around 2 p.m. We stopped at someone’s house because my wife’s heart was acting up. We covered 16 km, holding on to a bicycle. My wife walked barefoot because her feet were rubbed raw by her boots,” the man says.
The “White Angels” took the rescued residents to a safe location, where representatives of the Red Cross rapid response team were already waiting for them. Next, the people will be helped to reach their relatives in other regions of the country.
