        A Man Was Shot Dead in Central Barcelona During Pope Leo XIV’s Visit

        On June 10, an unknown gunman shot and killed a man in central Barcelona and fled the scene. The killing occurred during Pope Leo XIV’s visit to Catalonia, although police do not link the two events.

        El País reports, that attack took place at around 10:00 a.m. on Balmes Street. According to police, one man shot another and fled. The crime was committed directly outside a Spanish National Police office where identity documents and immigration services are processed. Surveillance cameras recorded the suspect. According to investigators, he was wearing shorts and was carrying a bicycle helmet in his hand.

        Later, law enforcement officers found the weapon at a bus stop. The pistol had been hidden under a bench, with a bicycle helmet placed on top of it. A mobile phone, believed to belong to the attacker, was also found at the scene.

        The identity of the deceased has not yet been established because he was not carrying any identification documents. The attacker remains at large.

        Pope Leo XIV is in Spain on an apostolic visit and visited Barcelona on June 9–10.
