One of the squares in Chernihiv will be renamed in honour of US President Donald Trump. This decision was supported by 22 deputies at the 46th extraordinary session of the Chernihiv City Council on 16 October, according to Suspilne.
The proposal to rename the square was made by Marina Semenko, head of the European Solidarity faction.
Later it became known that the square would be renamed from ‘Kazka’ to ‘Donald Trump’ in the Sherstyanka microdistrict of Chernihiv.
As stated in the explanatory note to this decision, the square was renamed “in order to honour outstanding political leaders of our time, as well as to draw international attention to the reconstruction of the hero city of Chernihiv.
‘The residents of Chernihiv sincerely hope that in this period of new international challenges, Donald Trump will be able to make efforts to stop another major war and achieve lasting peace. We believe that for this he deserves to become a Nobel Peace Prize laureate,’ the note says.
Marina Semenko noted on her Facebook page that the next step will be to invite the US president and his family to visit the hero city of Chernihiv.
