On the night of August 28, Ukraine’s Defense Forces struck a Russian Tu-95MS missile carrier in Engels. The Yaroslavl oil refinery, located 1,000 km from the front line, was also hit.
This was reported by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The Tu-95MS aircraft in Engels was hit by fighters from the Security Service of Ukraine’s Alpha unit — Russia uses such missile carriers to strike Ukraine.
During the day, the Defense Forces also struck an oil refinery in the Yaroslavl region. The facility is located about 1,000 km from the front line.
The president also said there had been retaliatory strikes in response to Russia’s war in the Black Sea, without providing further details.
As clarified by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Slavneft-YANOS oil refinery in Yaroslavl is one of Russia’s largest oil refining enterprises. The plant has a capacity of about 15 million tonnes of oil per year. It carries out the full cycle of oil refining and produces motor gasoline, diesel and aviation fuel, fuel oil, bitumen, lubricants and other petroleum products. The enterprise is involved in supplying the needs of the Russian armed forces.
