On the night of August 5, 17 people were killed in a massive Russian strike on Kyiv and the Kyiv region. The number of people injured rose to 44.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that supplies of ballistic missile interceptors could have saved the lives of those killed.
Today, Russia used 24 ballistic missiles, four Zircon/Onyx missiles and 115 drones against Ukraine, a significant number of which were jet-powered.
The main targets of the strike were warehouses belonging to civilian enterprises. Russian forces also attacked infrastructure and a railway station.
The facilities hit included a brewing company, building-material warehouses and civilian logistics facilities unrelated to the war.
“Ballistic missile interceptors are what could have saved the lives of those killed today. It is very important that partners understand that delays in their delivery or an unwillingness to provide anti-ballistic capabilities lead precisely to such horrific casualties and destruction,” Zelenskyy said.
He urged partners not to delay the delivery of missile defense systems. According to the president, countries that are not prepared to provide more interceptors can strengthen sanctions against Russia, since a significant number of Russian enterprises producing ballistic missiles are still not under sanctions.
Zelenskyy called on the G7 countries, the European Union and other partners to adopt new sanctions measures.
