President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported a lengthy phone conversation with Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, joined by Defense Minister Rustem Umerov and General Andriy Hnatov. The president announced the call in a his post.
According to Zelenskyy, the participants discussed many aspects and “rather quickly” went through key issues that could guarantee an end to the bloodshed, prevent a potential third Russian invasion, and mitigate the risk of Russia failing to honor its commitments, as has happened in the past.
Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine remains committed to working honestly with the American side in order to “truly bring peace.” He said the parties agreed on next steps and future formats of dialogue with the United States, expressing gratitude to President Donald Trump for “such an intensive approach to the negotiations.”
The president added that he expects a detailed report from Rustem Umerov and General Andriy Hnatov following the call. Not everything, he noted, can be discussed over the phone, so teams will need to work through ideas and proposals in greater detail. Zelenskyy stressed that Ukraine’s approach is that every important decision for peace, security, and reconstruction must be “capable of working” in practice.
