Ukraine is working to close all negotiating clusters in its European Union accession process by the end of this year. Kyiv expects to move on to closing individual negotiating chapters next year.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported this after meeting European Council President António Costa.
According to Zelenskyy, the two sides discussed Ukraine’s European integration process in detail and ways to accelerate it.
“We are working to close all negotiating clusters by the end of this year, and next year to move on to closing negotiating chapters and quickly advance further toward our accession,” the president said.
Zelenskyy also said he presented new ideas that, in his view, could significantly speed up Ukraine’s accession process.
The two sides agreed that António Costa would discuss these proposals with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
Trilateral meeting in Abu Dhabi discussed
Preparations for a trilateral format of talks in Abu Dhabi were another topic of the meeting.
Zelenskyy briefed Costa on his previous conversation with the American side and outlined Ukraine’s priorities.
The president stressed that Ukraine supports Europe’s participation in the negotiation process.
According to him, security guarantees and Ukraine’s economic recovery cannot be discussed without European representatives.
Zelenskyy said António Costa supports Ukraine’s position.
Earlier, “Glavnoe in Ukraine” reported that Ukraine had managed to return 2,790 children out of more than 20,000 abducted by Russia. Zelenskyy also discussed further steps to return Ukrainian children and support for the energy sector with Andorran Prime Minister Xavier Espot Zamora.
