Russia launched a mass attack on Ukraine overnight into October 7, using a total of 70 missiles, including ballistic missiles, as well as Shahed drones. Kyiv and 12 regions came under attack, with energy infrastructure among the key targets.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said this.

“Today, for Putin’s birthday, the Russian army ‘gave’ him the destruction of a residential building in Pryluky, Chernihiv region. It was an ordinary five-storey building,” Zelenskyy said.

Five people are already known to have been killed and 26 injured in Pryluky, including five children. People may still be trapped under the rubble, and rescuers are working at the scene.

Russian missile strikes also damaged five apartment buildings in Dnipro and four high-rise buildings in Kremenchuk. A high-rise building in Zaporizhzhia was damaged in a drone attack.

Two people were killed in Kyiv. Two more people were killed in Oleksandriia. Zelenskyy also reported two people killed and eight injured in connection with the consequences of strikes on Dnipro and Kremenchuk.

The president said Ukraine’s energy sector was one of the main targets of the attack.

“This was one of the most vile attacks: a total of 70 missiles, a large number of ballistic missiles, as well as Shaheds. Unfortunately, only some of them were shot down. Russian ballistic missiles remain the biggest challenge,” Zelenskyy said.

He stressed that Ukraine needs air defence packages and missiles for Patriot systems capable of countering ballistic threats.
