The Security Service of Ukraine destroyed a Tu-95 strategic bomber at the Engels military airfield in Russia’s Saratov region. Long-range drones covered about 800 kilometers to reach the target, and the aircraft, according to preliminary information, sustained critical damage.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the Security Service of Ukraine reported the successful special operation.
According to the SBU, the strike completely tore off the bomber’s tail section. Russian forces had systematically used this aircraft to carry out massive missile strikes on Ukraine.
“I am grateful to our warriors for their precision. Once again, there were successful long-range sanctions against Russia for this war,” Zelenskyy said.
The president noted that the distance from Ukraine’s state border to the airfield is about 800 kilometers.
In addition, Ukraine’s Defence Forces struck facilities of Russia’s oil industry and designated targets in the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine.
“We are defending ourselves justly and actively. We are increasing the price Russia pays for its aggression against our state and our people,” the head of state added.
The SBU said the special operation was carried out as part of implementing the tasks set by the president to reduce Russia’s military and economic potential.
