Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has stated that Ukraine cannot guarantee the safety of representatives of other countries planning to travel to Moscow for the 9 May celebrations. He made this statement during a meeting with journalists.
According to the head of state, Ukraine has no control over what is happening on Russian territory and therefore cannot take responsibility for possible incidents involving foreign guests.
‘We do not guarantee the safety of those who travel to Russia. We do not know what it is planning — it could be arson or explosions. And then it could blame Ukraine for it. We do not recommend visiting the Russian Federation on these dates. If you still decide to go, it is your personal decision,’ Zelensky emphasised.
The president noted that Kyiv respects countries that maintain neutrality or have ties with Russia, including China. At the same time, he stressed that this is not the first time Ukraine has received requests regarding safety during visits to Russia, but it cannot be responsible for events outside its own territory.
‘We always respond to such requests in a measured manner. But once again, we are responsible here, at home, and not for what is happening in Russia,’ Zelensky concluded.
