Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi responded with irony to a statement made by Russian dictator Vladimir Putin at a congress of the United Russia party.

Putin claimed that Russia sees Ukrainian forces “losing their positions on the frontline” and that, according to him, this is why Ukraine “resorts to terrorism inside Russia”.

In response, Tykhyi sarcastically described the Kremlin’s logic as an attempt to sound like a winner in a war that is already in its fifth year.

“POV: you sound as if you’re about to win the war — for the fifth year already,” the MFA spokesperson wrote.

He reminded that it was Russia that launched an aggressive war against Ukraine, expecting a quick victory, but has failed to achieve its goals after more than four years.

“REAL: you started an aggressive war trying to win fast; achieved no goals after losing 1.3 million men in over 4 years; your slow advances stall; the war returns to your territory,” Tykhyi wrote.

He ended his post with an ironic line: “It’s giving winner!”

Putin’s statement came amid regular strikes on military, logistics, energy and oil-refining facilities inside Russia. The Kremlin traditionally describes such attacks as “terrorism”, while continuing daily strikes on Ukrainian cities and civilian infrastructure.
